Tuesday, 07 April, 2015

The Defense Attaché Office organized the 2nd Spanish Defense Industry Day in Washington, D.C. to promote the Spanish defense industry to representatives from several U.S. defense agencies. Spanish companies presented their products to the Comparative Technology Office (CTO) with representatives from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army, Office of Naval Research/Naval Sea Systems Command, and U.S. Air Force attended the event.

The CTO’s goal, through the Foreign Comparative Testing Program (FCT), is to test technologies of US foreign allies that have a high Technology Readiness Level in order to satisfy valid defense requirements more quickly and economically.

Out of 15 Spanish companies, 11 were selected to participate at the event. These companies sent 36 products to the CTO and 24 products were selected to be promoted at the event.

The following six everis products were presented:

- IBETOR portable satellite terminal provides a portable, operational satellite terminal fully integrated in a single case. It allows a fast set-up and provides a user-friendly interface to establish a high speed satellite connection with minimum training requirements.

- SORPRESA is a light Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) designed for Special Forces. The system is constructed using high strength composite materials. It is a highly portable unit, fitting in a custom designed case which can be carried in a standard large vehicle or 4x4.

- VIPER is a VTOL Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) based on the commercially successful A-600 manned helicopter from Rotorway Inc. VIPER is a fully automated aircraft designed for long range surveillance and combat missions.

- ALAKRAN is the only 120 mm mortar carrier system that operates in a light one-ton payload vehicle.

- IBETOR low profile satcom terminal (~20cm height) was developed in response to high performance communication needs. Based on flat antenna technology with array stubs and waveguide feeders, the system incorporates an antenna control unit (ACU) with highly accurate INS technology to maintain satellite alignment compatible with X-Band requirements.

- MIURA is a high accuracy, low cost guidance kit with the ability to launch unguided ammunition of various calibers. With the combination of INS and GNSS, it transforms a conventional ballistic projectile and includes a navigation system, a guidance system and a canard-based control system. It reduces the scattering of unguided ammunition, and improves weapon systems’ fire.
